Learning through play

At Carealot Day Nursery, we believe play is central to children’s learning and development.

Children are encouraged to explore their interests, make choices, experiment and learn from their experiences.

Our practitioners observe children carefully and use what they see to plan meaningful opportunities that extend learning

The EYFS

Our setting is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We support children across the seven areas of learning:

Prime areas

Communication and Language
Physical development
Personal, Social and Emotional

Specific areas

Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design

Child-led learning

Children are encouraged to make choices about their play and follow their own interests.

An example would be if a child became interested in animals, practitioners might introduce books, small-world animals, animal sounds, counting activities and opportunities to explore different habitats.

This allows children to develop a range of skills while remaining engaged in something meaningful to them.
